West Pokot teachers have a reason to smile following the launch of Shalom springs Hospital, an ultra-modern hospital in Kapenguria.
Speaking during the official opening of the hospital, Governor Simon Kachapin termed it as a major step in improving access to quality healthcare for West Pokot residents and its environs.
The hospital, equivalent of level 5 is associated with Minet health cover and administers treatment to teachers, security officers and other disciplines.
Its other wing has been administering quality treatment to the teaching fraternity since 2018 and is fully assessed and registered by Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board.
According to the proprietor Dr. Martin Namuya, who is a graduate of Moi University School of Medicine, this is a long-term dream that has finally come true.
“I have been providing out-patient medical services over the years, but I yearned to have more time with patients so that I can give back to the community by providing quality in-patient and outpatient services which has finally come to be,” he stated.
The impressively advanced 5 storey hospital that comfortably rests on an acre piece of land has a bed capacity of 300.
According to the resources available, the hospital has a lab and several diagnostics rooms, a maternity ward and theatres, a children and women wing, and another one for male.
There’s another area where we have offices and a kitchen. The roof top has a modern laundry and ICU. There is also a separate floor reserved for doctors’ offices and call rooms.
Its other components are private rooms, semi-private rooms, semi-private wards, general wards, and a special generator.
There’s a morgue at the hind side of the hospital which has highly sophisticated equipment.
Facilities available at the hospital are definitely set to completely change the landscape of healthcare provision in Kapenguria and its environs.
