When Minet Kenya launched its Blooming Mums Club in 2019, it wasn’t just adding another corporate wellness initiative to its portfolio.
The company had a strategy to win hearts by redefining how companies think about maternal health and employee wellbeing. Six years later, that decision continues to resonate, as the insurer continues to shape lives in homes, workplaces, and even Kenya’s forests.
Minet’s special Mother’s Day celebration In May 2025, Minet hosted a special Mother’s Day celebration for members of its Blooming Mums Club at a Nairobi hotel. The event, themed “Chic and Cherished – A Mother’s Day Reawakening”, brought together more than 80 mothers for a day of pampering, reflection, and empowerment.
This was a fitting tribute to the women who, as global data shows, shoulder most of the invisible workload that keeps families running. “At Minet, we understand that beyond physical wellness, mental and emotional health are vital for thriving families and workplaces. We go beyond our core business to create experiences that affirm and uplift,” said Carolyne Nekesa, Head of Marketing at Minet Kenya. During the event in Nairobi, Minet hosted a powerful panel discussion titled “Owning Your Power: Mothers in Bloom”. The panel brought together psychologists, wellness coaches, working mothers, and health professionals to explore the modern challenges of motherhood, from burnout and self-neglect to setting healthy boundaries.
Conversations were honest and raw, with participants sharing their own experiences of exhaustion and rediscovery.
A wellness break complemented the discussion, offering guided mindfulness exercises and time management insights. Mothers are left with practical tools to manage stress and sustain balance, echoing the Club’s mission to nurture both mind and body. Providing postnatal support for mothers Beyond the event, Minet Kenya has quietly built a far-reaching maternal wellness ecosystem, as the Blooming Mums Club provides maternity assistance and postnatal support for expectant and nursing mothers. The programme offers mental health resources, financial literacy training, and regular health check-ins. This was inspired by data from Minet-managed corporate schemes which showed that maternity-related issues rank among the top reasons for hospital visits.
The company decided to respond proactively, focusing on prevention, empowerment, and community. “We are proud of the impact we have made so far. But we know the journey doesn’t stop here; that’s why we’re constantly evolving to meet our clients’ needs in a holistic and forward-looking way,” Nekesa noted.
Sustainability and community empowerment Minet’s wellness philosophy is part of a broader purpose that integrates sustainability, risk advisory, and community empowerment, which has become a model that has become increasingly visible through its environmental initiatives. In 2025, Minet’s green strategy gained national attention when the company pledged to plant 500,000 trees by 2030. So far, 46,000 trees have taken root, including 20,000 seedlings planted this May in Kiambu County’s Uplands Forest, and the project’s hallmark is its community-led approach.
Rather than simply funding tree planting, Minet partners with local residents to prepare land, plant, and nurture the seedlings. “When you empower people and respect their traditional knowledge, they take real ownership. This isn’t just about planting trees; it’s about restoring livelihoods, strengthening ecosystems, and building resilience,” said Sammy Muthui, CEO of Minet Kenya. This philosophy aligns with Kenya’s Forest Ecosystem Landscape Restoration Strategy, which aims to plant 15 billion trees and restore over 10 million hectares of degraded land by 2032.
Minet’s trees, once mature, are expected to absorb over 440,000 kilograms of carbon dioxide annually. This is a tangible step in combating climate change while supporting rural incomes. The company’s holistic approach to risk and wellbeing reflects a deeper reimagining of its operation models. Its Blooming Mums Club uplifts working mothers, while its reforestation drive empowers communities and safeguards Kenya’s ecological future.
Its solutions span from employee benefit consulting and wellness programmes to enterprise risk management, environmental insurance, and sustainability-focused advisory services.
